Description

Terry Jones starts the second episode telling us about the journey of the Crusaders, while traveling through the Middle East wearing full armer and only leather shoes in 90 degree weather. Jones then tells how there was one other thing that made the Journey more nightmarish for the Crusaders, they were surrounded by the enemy the Turks who could ambushed them any time. At the battle of Dorylaeum  they had as much as 4000 casualties by the end of the first crusade the death rate was three to one. The hardships of the journey still took up the most of there lives. The unity of the Crusade leaders was beginning to divide and Bohemond was looking for a kingdom of his own. However the other Crusaders had no intention to let Bohemond to get ahead of them so they sent Baldwin to go after him, whenever Bohemond takes a town Baldwin would take it from him. After the crusader leaders reconciled Baldwin took the wealthy and orthodox christen city of Edessa. Meanwhile the other crusaders arrived at Antioch a strongly fortified city where the Christen Church began. Hunger and disease had ravished the Crusaders. the Crusader leaders agreed to let Bohmond have the city if he takes it first. Bohemond secretly contacted guard named Firouz who commanded one of the city's gates. After receiving a bribe, Firouz opened gate letting the Crusaders in committing a massive slaughter of the inhabitance. Not much longer a Large Turkish army had arrived and surrounded the besiegers had become the besieged.The Crusaders bereaving they found the Spear of Destiny  opened the gate and charged the Turks and had won the battle. At Ma'arrat al-Numan the Crusader's would resort to cannibalism to the inhabitance even children were victims. The Crusaders had finally arrived at Jerusalem but the Turks had already been expelled by the Egyptians who were opened to Christian pilgrims, despite that the crusaders were determined to take the city. When they began the siege they had now wood but found wood from there soundings and built three siege towers. after they entered the they would make a even worse slaughter then Antioch, Muslims Jews and Christians were all victims. It would be four decades until the Muslims would fight back.
