Documentary looking at the origins of Mary Shelley's classic
novel, examining how the book drew on scientific developments, radical
politics and the author's own turbulent life. Using dramatic
reconstructions, the film also explores the importance of the summer the
writer spent at Lord Byron's Villa Diodati and recreates the monster as
Shelley imagined him, revealing him to be a very different creature
from the lumbering beast portrayed by Boris Karloff. Robert Winston
