To mark the opening of a new exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum, critic Alastair Sooke studies the work of four of the 20th century's greatest artists - Warhol, Matisse, Picasso and Dali. He hopes to understand the fame and continuing cultural importance of four men who embraced the mainstream to earn fortunes and adulation that have only grown since their deaths, beginning with Warhol and his relationship with the worlds of celebrity and consumerism.
