Moxie Marlinspike, in collaboration with the Anarchist Yacht Club, presents a raw and unpolished documentary chronicling the journey of the everyday sailor.

The film opens with a brief history lesson on the democratization of sailing, courtesy of fiberglass boat technology, enabling enthusiasts beyond the elite to take to the seas. It then introduces the central characters: Lisa, an exacting perfectionist; Allie, a navigation enthusiast; Kirsten, a determined yet scatterbrained crew member; and Moxie, the laid-back narrator and lone male in the crew.

The narrative kicks off with Moxie’s impulsive decision to respond to a newspaper ad for a sailboat in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Despite the vessel’s dilapidated state—devoid of mast, engine, fittings, or even a hatch cover—Moxie seizes the opportunity, embarking on a daunting restoration project at a makeshift dock.

Joined by his companions, they become nomads, residing in a lavish Ft. Lauderdale mansion while tirelessly working to refurbish the boat. Their journey unveils the harsh realities of sailing—constant repairs and maintenance, with challenges exacerbated by the unforgiving sea environment.

As they set sail through the Caribbean and along the Eastern seaboard, the film offers glimpses of their adventures and mishaps, interspersed with practical sailing advice for novices. Ultimately, their voyage concludes in Haiti, where Moxie parts ways with sailing, charting his own course.

Moxie Marlinspike’s documentary captures the essence of the everyman sailor’s odyssey—a testament to resilience, camaraderie, and the allure of the open sea.
